Communicare Trust as an NGO always focuses on the importance of communication and learning languages. For everyone to be able to have equal footing, we have worked closely with a lot of orphanages in Goa, during which, we have seen that is difficult to provide the children with a nutritious meal. As a result, we decided to start the Food Bank.

What is the Food Bank?

The Food Bank is a project wherein we collect food for the orphanages that we support. We have volunteers at supermarkets with a ‘shopping list’. This shopping list has been carefully created by collaborating with the orphanages and discussing their needs. We request for customers to purchase one or more items and donate it by dropping it into our ‘shopping cart’ which is placed outside the supermarket.

Where?

We tied up with Magson’s Supermarkets for this project, which are located at

Taleigao

Panjim

Ponda

Fatorda

What happens after?

The food is then transferred to a warehouse. It is then equally distributed into the number of houses that we will be working for that year. We usually associate with at least 10-14 children and women’s homes. Based on the collection and requirement, we decide which homes this food needs to be delivered to. These are the names of the homes, we have worked and continue working with.

Besides the food, we also include items for basic hygiene like soaps, shampoos, toothpaste, tooth brushes, sanitary pads etc. This is then distributed to every home.

This activity is conducted twice a year.

The next food bank will be held from 8 September 2021 to 20 September 2021.

From our December Food Bank in 2020, we had supported 579 children + women and 43 families.

If anybody wants to individually support any orphanages or homes please contact us, we will connect you to them.
